Rukshana Hoque

Rukshana Hoque started her career in Marketing for the National Statistics Office.  She has been instrumental to the success of the Well Wishers Campaign whose objective is to reduce water-borne diseases, such as cholera and typhoid, in villages and remote rural communities.

Following the widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Sidr in November 2008, Rukshana has help orchestrate a group of Doctors and volunteers to design and build a cyclone shelter for the island village of Borguna to protect villagers and their livestock. The shelter also has a dual purpose as the village school.

“I believe Skin Deep is a powerful ideology representing strength and possibility.  I want to be part of a journey that is towards bettering peoples understanding and perception of skin disease.”

The prevalence of skin disease exceeds that of obesity, hypertension, or cancer. Despite skin being the largest organ of the human body, dermatological research remains one of the most under funded areas of medicine. In a world where society has an increasing preoccupation with image and it’s importance to every aspect of a person’s life, sufferers of skin diseases are feeling and being more marginalised and isolated than ever.
