Giving is Good for You

Britain is the most charitable developed nation in the world, according to a new report by the World Giving Index of 2014.

World Giving Index heat map

This is the fifth year that the index has been compiled. The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) originally conceived the Index in 2009 as a way of encouraging people across the world to start asking questions, and start thinking about creating the conditions that would make the world more charitable. This year’s index shows welcome increases in the numbers of people giving their money, volunteering their time and helping strangers.

Looking forward, I am asking everyone to come together to show the world why it’s good to give. Whether it’s making a donation, volunteering your time or just spreading the word. Naturally, as a blogger for SKIN DEEP Behind the Mask I would love you to help us. However, what is more important is that no matter which organisation you choose, please GIVE.

We have a number of very exciting events and campaigns for 2015 planned and we need help to get out our message. Our inaugural Masquerade Ball, scheduled for September 2015 at the Grosvenor House hotel, needs to be the most talked about charity event of the year. Can you do this? The fundraising ball will feature two fashion shows, an art exhibition, music and an auction. Can you help create some of these artefacts to make it a roaring success? We have gained the support of a number of parliamentarians. Can you help us now get celebrity ambassadors? We are planning campaigns to support skin disease patients and their families. Can you get the media to care enough to run stories?

This new year will you be a new volunteer?

The prevalence of skin disease exceeds that of obesity, hypertension, or cancer. Despite skin being the largest organ of the human body, dermatological research remains one of the most under funded areas of medicine. In a world where society has an increasing preoccupation with image and it’s importance to every aspect of a person’s life, sufferers of skin diseases are feeling and being more marginalised and isolated than ever.
