Skin disease sufferers can get extremely hot and itchy skin and sometimes to alleviate this a sufferer may make up ice packs to cool themselves down. With this in mind SDBM wanted to come up with a toy, which a child could find a companion in, as well as a toy, which was cooling to the skin, inspired by baby teethers. The Toby toy is water filled made from food grade materials which can be kept in the fridge for a few minutes and kept near the skin as well as double up as a teether for babies.

The prevalence of skin disease exceeds that of obesity, hypertension, or cancer. Despite skin being the largest organ of the human body, dermatological research remains one of the most under funded areas of medicine. In a world where society has an increasing preoccupation with image and it’s importance to every aspect of a person’s life, sufferers of skin diseases are feeling and being more marginalised and isolated than ever.
